Can I recommend a book?

One of the appealing things about game lit has always been that “what if a gamer was in a video game” that acted like “real life” For a awhile now, I’ve thought Jackal Among Snakes ([Jackal Among Snakes](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CLNLLF5J?binding=kindle_edition&searchxofy=true&ref_=dbs_s_aps_series_rwt_tkin&qid=1707606636&sr=8-1)) is one of the best of these. It’s a game lit book that focuses on the book part, and not the game part. Reincarnated as a character (and not even the playable character!) the main character—the literal editor of the fan wiki—has to figure out how to save the game world. Because in this game, the hero could lose.

I’ve learned, to my surprise, that the Amazon launch of this book didn’t go very well for the author and publisher. I think that’s a shame, because the writing is good.

Just take a look, eh?

I like this story quite a lot.

I’ve read a few hundred thousand words of it and keep meaning to get back to it.

I’m not sure why it’s not more popular. Possibly the fact that people expect it to be something it’s not, and then drop it early.

Recommended.
