Chapter 231 My speculating "We should keep an eye on Sebastien"

I want to try to get threads going here each week instead of only on the comments of the patreon comment section. So I’m going to start posting my comments here in addition to the patreon.

I have trouble following the thread chains sometimes on patreon. I wish we used this “restricted archive category” more.

“We should keep an eye on Sebastien”. If they do find out Sebastien and the Raven Queen are the same person that confirms their thoughts that she can shapeshift. It would in turn strengthen their devotion.

Also could link in nicely with the Heir plot line. They will basically see it as the Raven Queen taking over the city in another persona. I can easily see a path where Sebastien gets pushed as the new Heir with the crown dying from Lacers curse.

A common ground ally of both the stag / Oliver and the Sebastien’s thirteen crown school friends. Oliver’s accidental made up Nobel linage of Sebastien being descended from a kings blood line.

Sebastien will do it to save his friends from Oliver’s over throw of the thirteen crowns. When / if Oiver dose start his plot Sebastien’s friends are at serious risk.

Oliver will accept it because he (I think hes in love with her to some degree) or will learn to trust her. Its a middle ground where both sides can have someone they trust in power. Without destroying each other and the city. Though I imagine some of the 13 crowns will get killed off in the struggle for power.

Sebastien a descendant of the old King. The rightful Heir. But also a orphan of the streets. A man who ate rats to survive. A man of the people. Now popular with the population for punching the pretentious Pendragons in the face.

“And punched him in the face,” Enforcer Turner repeated, grinning. “Just from hearing that, I feel he’s fifteen percent more likable. We could definitely be friends.”

To quote this chapter "the last verse is predicting poverty, famine, and violence. I mean, hopefully it’s…exaggerated?”

A population experiencing that is primed to overthrow their government.

Sebastien taking over seems like the logical solution for both sides. And is know to be supported by the Raven Queen.

To also quote the newspaper from chapter 184

“The High Crown had declared that he was taking measures to ensure the safety of the city and its people, and so the Raven Queen would probably be caught or killed soon. Or she would kill and eat the High Crown and take his place, starting a new regime of bird worship.”

The high crown said it was going to “ensure the safety of the city and its people” If the city under goes poverty, famine, and violence. Finds out that instead of prepping for protecting the population they instead “Thirteen Crowns, have been stockpiling celerium and powerful components”

Meanwhile the Raven Queen is actually doing stuff with both the Stag and the undreaming order to “ensure the safety of the city”.

I really want one of the “basic meditations” to be the light refining movement technic.

The Flock does the morning light refining routine together. A big Yoga / Tai Chi session class. Everyone thinks that it’s a bit silly but it slowly improves them. Then months later the followers realize it’s actually doing something. Slowly changing them. Slowly making the whole order stronger.

To quote chapter 184 “I am a changeling like the seasons,
A daughter of shadow and light”

S’ is a daughter of both the Shadow and light. Meditations for her followers that lead to skills with both would link in so nicely.

Add in the shadow spell. The dark breath potion. The less sleep needed raven spells.

I just love the idea.

It would also link in with her mythos of when they were in the cave jails. The raven queen wasn’t effected by the Radiance cell.

Chapter 178
“A shadow is always darkest against the light,” Deidre said as if reciting something.

"Maybe some kind of rewards and recognition program meant to increase our members’ sense of loyalty and belonging. I don’t want to tell everyone that the Raven Queen plans to teach them magic. We want people who are here for the right reasons, not a sense of greed.”

This chapter
“Maybe a ranking or badge system for various contributions and achievements?”

How cool would it be that the members “representing the most dedicated members of the Undreaming Order” show up to the light refining routine everyday.

Since the light refining takes a ton of time to get good at and do everyday, improving them over time. Only the most dedicated would gain power. The more dedicated would gain the most power.

If you’ll indulge me, I strongly suspect that a potential endgame here is Sebastien as a sort of radiant king, and Siobhan as a sort of night queen.

One of the ways I see this signaled was the Radiant Angel’s success in the fight Sebastien staged on the element fights she did as an exhibition.

But also the radiant Gestura magic Sebastien uses. I suspect fellow students have watched her do it, so there is a story there that people can tell about Sebastien.

I feel like followers of Sebastien get the Gestura magic, and the Followers of the Raven Queen get something else - something more obscure (like some sort of dream Shamanism)

That would be awesome idea as well.

I’ve never thought about Sebastien developing into a radiant king. I could totally see that recent events are now building up his own mythos.

Bear let out a deep, rumbling growl, staring over the edge of the table at Turner, who shrank back, chastened.

Was rereading the chapter.

Anyone think the youth spell in addition to making bear get younger maybe also caused Bear to get smarter and actually understands words?

Copy pasting some thoughts on Lizas POV. That I left as a comment to JKlarinet on patron.

Liza has to know that Siobhan is not normal to some degree. All the sleep realm topic stuff has got to be peaking Liza’s interest. Maybe Liza thinks Siobhan knows more about the sleep realm.

“Your soul may find a place to hide.
In the realm of dreams, beware,
Dark creatures roam with wicked stare.”

Some of this sleep stuff has got to be putting Liza on edge. She might think Siobhan knows more then she’s letting on / told Liza.

Liza also knows Siobhan is super obsessed with sleep topics. She has been asking Liza for help with the shaman dream walking topic right? Also… Didn’t they literally find a dead shaman a few chapters back.

Liza knows Siobhan casts a nightmare protection spell on her self when she sleeps.
Liza also knows that Siobhan wanted to make a spell to reduce time spent sleeping.
Liza also knows that Siobhan wanted a bunch of extra test done on her sleeping ravens. (When Siobhan was worried after he shadow got free she asked Liza for even more test on the ravens if I remember right?)
Siobhan also taught Liza the nightmare protection spell.
Liza also knows that Siobhan really wanted to talk to the crazy guy in the hospital.

Liza might think they are a bit crazy with the “Raven Queen” stuff.

Liza also knows that Siobhan has access to information Liza doesn’t. Like the journals.
Liza might think that Siobhan has more depth then she first thought.
From Liza’s point of view maybe Siobhan does know more even though she never told Liza.

And Siobhan kind of does. With the up coming aberrant issues and celerium shortage. Liza might not believe in the raven queen mythos but she doesn’t know Siobhan as a person all that well. Its been mostly a business relationship. She doesn’t know if Siobhan is purposely setting up this organization for something that Siobhan knows more about like the dream realm or the celerium shortage, or something else that she never told Liza about.

Undoubtedly, and most likely more than “a bit” because she’s very much aware of Siobhan’s real power level, has spent quite a bit of time working/interacting with her, and she’s responsible for the more power intensive stuff attributed to the Raven Queen (the messenger spell, destroying the blood sample, not to mention she’s the one that made her anti divination ward).

I can’t wait to see their next interaction !

Yes, and don’t forget doggo healing. Siobhan doesn’t know everything, but if she’s not entirely human, that might not be too much of a surprise to Liza.

well but she is also aware that she has a really weirdly strong will. She showed multiple times that she can do stuff thats beyond even her power level so its not too unlikely that she just considers her a wildcard of unknown power (since thaumic capacity is just a small part of magic might)
