Poor Rory! What do you think Siobhan might find in the tower?
Discussion welcome.
With all the weird things they are causing already ? Nothing good that’s for sure…
The door/mirror. I’m afraid she’s going to find her mother became an aberrant, and Grandfather is studying it.
I suddenly understand Siobhan’s resentment towards her mother even more.
She was lucid. That’s…huge. She was fully in control of her mind, she was just an addict. This adds vastly more context. And hurt. So much hurt.
Also, the fact that she felt the moment of her mother’s death indicates she probably did become an aberrant. My earlier theory was that she became that twisted mirror.
Now the question is…why is Claudio trying to let her in?
Maybe he’s partially possessed, partially under the control of a spirit…
Or trying to rid himself of possession…
Or perhaps trying to use her as a test subject…
Or maybe he just wants her to know the truth and is impulsive, maybe even ill natured.
Whatever it is, it never bodes well when an adult has a secret with a child that they can’t tell another adult. The situation makes my skin crawl.
I can totally see Claudio as the spirit that she is holding captive, or the arrogant bastard who let the spirit into the world.
I suppose there’s one more possibility - that grandfather intends to use her as a test subject and Claudio is trying to warn her, obscurely. But I don’t like that one.
What irritates me most that both are so relaxed given that some unexpected magical effect just manifested outside the house.
Or Claudio is infected/contracted with a spirit influencing him; maybe even a type of aberrant that he’s holding at bay some somehow. We know the Red Guard is after him. I wonder if Raz and associates are quite insane after all.
For Raz and Claudio it may all be an experiment, even Siobhan.
To my sensibilities the obvious reason for this is that it wasn’t entirely unexpected to them. They seem a bit surprised by the exact nature of the manifestation, but do not seem terribly surprised that something occurred in their approximate location.
This makes sense to me, because based upon their breakfast discussion Claudio and Raz do actually seem to be mapping something (something that might require a 4D coordinate system to get down properly) and Claudio wanted to jump straight to manipulation instead of focusing on understanding first.
Presumably, they are attempting to use the Mirrorakoda to map the spirit realm and how it corresponds to the physical realm. Claudio is reckless and prone to ignoring Raz’s justified warnings (he ignored the warning about the Red Guard and dream magic after all), so he probably did it anyway.
So Claudio manipulated something within the spirit realm and sought to see how and where it changed the physical realm, to help them figure out what corresponds to what. That gives them a firm, nearby reference point to base things off of, even if they don’t know what Claudio actually changed.
Incidentally, the most impressive skill displayed by the thing inside of Siobhan’s head seems to be that it knows, with certainty, how to navigate the strange paths of the spirit realm to get to certain points within the physical realm, exactly what these upstanding gentlemen seem to be working on.
