What do you think Lacer is researching?

Okay, number 1 ~ I do not think in English, and trying to translate my thoughts into stuff others will understand can be hard and I take shortcuts

I’ve heard of Avatar TLA, but never seen it. I’m not familiar with that usage of the word but can guess from the context. I didn’t mean to imply that you’re using it incorrectly.

It’s just that in the UK it’s slang for something entirely different and it caught me off guard right at the worst moment. I’ve not laughed like that in a while.

…. The normal use of bender that I grew up with in the US is something like “an all night bender” translating to “going and getting completely wasted on adult juice, possibly black out, def a hangover that last all day”

Where your use

And glad you laughed

I wonder what else could be done with knowledge of aberrants. Perhaps becoming an aberrant that stops the existence of mortals, if not their individual lives, from being doomed, like one that stops more aberrants from being created by getting rid of the karma-in-a-certain-Buddhist-concept.

Unwordsalad and correction: Maybe Thaddeus is thinking about becoming/creating an aberrant that gets rid of the thing that makes aberrants appear. I speculate that what Merlin called the scar that is not healing might be this. Perhaps Thaddeus thinks it would be best to create a sentient aberrant to achieve the goal of saving people from the aberrant creation rate increasing towards doom for all mortals. Stopping aberrants from being created. He might think that aberrant magic could achieve this. With a high thaum output, Thaddeus could create a powerful aberrant.

Hm, perhaps not everything that increases itself is the same sort of thing. Running water can start trickling slowly and cause erosion that makes a bigger channel for the water and cause increased water flow. There’s no need for magic or karma there (Unless you generalise karma to everything because memory is inherent in nature, like how a photon continues to exist as a result of having previously existed. There is continuity of existence and causality through time).

The aberrant creation rate seems to be increasing exponentially (I’ve not seen the data personally). This differs from how magic goes from wild to familiar, and how a sorcerer gains familiarity with a spell. Familiarity increases, but not exponentially. In real life, I think I remember that melting points of crystals are not increasing exponentially. There is a sudden increase in the ease of crystallising them once they are first crystallised, but afterwards the melting points increase gradually over the years, and things that have crystallised naturally since time immemorial have steady melting points.

Going back to aberrant formation increase, perhaps the mechanism of action isn’t the same as that of spell familiarity. Or perhaps it is, but the number of break events needed for it to reach a plateau is nowhere near met, and it’s currently in an early sharp increase phase far from plateauing. I’m favouring the idea that inner workings are different from spell familiarity. It could be like a scar in magic that gets torn bigger. I previously assumed, or almost assumed, that the aberrant increase was the same sort of thing as creating a glyph. Also I don’t actually know how any of those things work in this…

I’m making the correction that maybe Thaddeus is thinking about creating an aberrant to save the world mortals, without assuming the technical magical details.
