What professions do you think lend themselves to developing the highest capacities?

Thaumaturges grow their capacities based upon both time spent casting and variety of spells… I’m just curious what types of sorcerers that people imagine would just naturally do the most of that without it necessarily being about growing in power, as it might be for military assets, etc.

Basically, what jobs are high-value enough to justify being done by a sorcerer, are low-prestige enough to require constant casting rather than just planning by said sorcerer, and also have varied workloads? Would there be some magical equivalent of a construction worker where everyone just tends towards being freakishly powerful?

For example, the first one that comes to mind for me would be healers. They would spend a lot of their time seeing patients, where they would be casting a mix of diagnostic spells to assess, and then varying types of spells to solve problems, likely along with some potion-making behind the scenes. It seems likely to me that most healers would be abnormally powerful thaumaturges.

Healers might be a good choice
But I almost imagine anybody focused on exploring might also have to build up to an insane amount, imagine being able to battle whatever on the fly, react to anything and everything

And while yes, you can use mundane ways to react to stuff and not only rely on your magic, a lot of magic users tend to forget this trick.

I would think elite scholars would fit into this, because their addiction to learning makes them not able to stop, look at our girl, constantly pushing herself to be the best and is constantly casting

Though as it stands right now, I think only our girl can truly dial cast, I think it has something to do with because people are told they can’t they don’t bother, but it could be an actual limitation

However, fun piece of trivia for you, the sounds that dialing on pre wifi phones have two tones that was done because no human could mimic the sound and therefore trick the system.

~therr has been at least two humans who can dial phone numbers with their voice alone, able to make the dual sounds…

I honestly did not do a deep dive into why, and as much as I don’t like talking, I found no reason to try to figure out if I could do this trick, but knowing it’s possible just proves that humans will find a way

Definitely Healers. Village generalists, which may serve everyone from Farmers to Smiths to Millers could be quite good, depending on how much magic the locals rely on.

i think the most varied spellcasting we see, aside from dedicated mages like Kiernan and Lacer, are fancy chefs and fashion designers.

Think about it - just the Glasshopper has a dessert dish with multiple different special enchanted effects. That’s just one platter at one upscale restaurant. Lower tier restaurants probably can’t afford to hire a Journeyman, let alone a Master, who is capable of enchanting a half dozen different effects into food multiple times a night.

Fashion is probably similar. I’d wager that some of the Crowns host balls or soirees where there’s an unspoken social competition to see who can come up with the most outrageous outfits. Consider things like a gown made of swirling smoke, or a suit made from living vines and leaves, or jewelry that is literally sculpted light that moves with the wearer and shifts color throughout the night.

Ooooo, Yeah! The chefs are a great example! I really like the idea that inside the kitchens of the Glasshopper there’s probably one of the most terrifying thaumaturges in all of Lenore.
