Chapter 279 Weekly Discussion - "The Grave of Heaven"

This chapter isn’t very long, but I didn’t want to just have a number missing from the weekly discussion threads and potentially confuse people.

Feel free to discuss the chapter itself, as well as this book as a whole, or what you think/hope may be coming in Book 7, when we return to the “present” time.

Honestly, my biggest hope for Siobhan in book 7 is somehow getting some sort of lightness in her life. This poor woman has endured so damn much and has a huge sword of damocles hanging over her. I desperately want something less dismal after the big hit of trauma.

Thoughts:

We now know her past. She now knows her past.

What follows?

She was using three facets of her Will when casting the Crown of Madness. One to cast. One to experience what was happening. One to watch and observe and keep her on track. Will that be enough to keep the seal from falling? Will it fail? If it does, will the wards hold? Will the safeguards be effective? Is Oliver going to be safe? Will Liza come back and witness what’s happening?

Nebulous thoughts:

The Builder of Dreams. The Raven Queen who curses her foes with nightmares and walks through their dreams. She can send messages when people sleep. Coincidence upon coincidence. It gives me a vague feeling of unease. I wonder if she will make the connection. Has it - the Aberrant - been influencing her? A stand of memory? A real effect on others due to its taint upon her? Or just coincidence. After all, we’ve seen everything that happened, there are many plausible explanations.

And yet…

Her eye hurt, like his hurt. In battle, in the memory of the guard, it was more extreme than a simple bloodshot. Was he just overwhelmed by the fight and terrified?

Or was it peeking through the holes of its cell?

Did the nightmares come because they were terrified of what they’d seen, the unknown they’d faced on the battlefield, their own lack of understanding?

Or did it leak through, either unconsciously affecting those around her or purposefully trying to tether itself to them to feed its power?

Nebulous thoughts, nebulous fears. No certainty.

Fond hopes:

I hope Oliver takes her home after this and feeds her, gives her a hug (maybe a massage to take all the stress out of her) and tucks her into bed. After all this she needs to be fed, warm and safe for a bit. Absolutely not alone, hungry, cold or scared.

Do I think it’s going to happen?

No.

But it would be nice if it did. She needs to catch a break.

Yeah poor thing. Chances are big that the seal now completely unravels. Who could help? In theory Lacer but he can’t be trusted with aberrant business. Liza is probably not well versed in mind magic and the shamans are dying like the flies.

By the by, @AzaleaEllis i just noticed that in the recap section you mention there are spoilers ahead if people haven’t read the first three books. I assume it’s meant to be the first six. Not sure if you can correct that before it goes live on Amazon, but I thought you might want to know.

This book has been great. I was initially highly suspect of if I would even like this one since it is such a shift from the other books but it just got better and better with each chapter.

No idea how this will turn out in the end and if/how this will change S in the present and I cant wait to see.

Thanks, Hannah! I’ll update the files.

One hope I have about book 7 is Damien or/and Ana finding out about Sebastien being Siobhan. It would be incredibly interesting to see how they react to that revelation and how it affects their relationships with Siobhan.

It would, but I do enjoy how she has to juggle and the way she’s able to just relax with them a bit. I’ll be a little sad when it’s lost, even as I’m sure the new dynamic will be very interesting.

Ana might get told before Damien, she doesn’t have the elaborate secret organization lie to get through with her. She may even want to tell Ana first to workshop how to break it to Damien.

Hardest thing might be that it isn’t hard to connect the dots on Oliver being Lord Stag once you know Siobhan is Sebastian. But Oliver may be forced to reveal himself anyway and it’s something he’s anticipated.

If a piece of “aberrant” is in her mind, can it be used as a component?

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Or even the titan remnant connected to the piece of aberrant in her mind.

Isnt the Oliver persona kinda burned already anyway bc they killed that professor after torturing him?

He did say that he never expected to be able to be oliver forever and that he will continue to be Lord Stag afterwards anyway.

I mean, no one knows for sure that he the one who kidnapped him. So technically he might be ok for now.

The RR link to here is broken because it’s not in the public section
