Does anyone know how I could get an image of the Raven Queens symbol I’m getting a new tattoo soon and thats what I want to get but it’s not described in depth enough to recreate.
I don’t think there are any images of her symbol unfortunately.
I do feel another element here is actually on potions. Specifically the novel effects she may be able to integrate into her own custom potions. The qualitative elements she could gain from Legion alongside being able to better define qualities and even observe the given spells and qualia in the spirit world gives her a lot of potential to make custom rituals. And that doesnt neccessarily require thaums to be applicable. Especially as she has the reach to spread belief of some particular rituals having specific effects though unsure if manipulating that sort of thing would be harder or easier than her symbol. Though givsn Legion seems to have some of her mothers ability its possible she could effectively help make those constructs in the spirit world using specific qualia for or from potions and them bring it back into the mundane to help make the rituals more real, stable, etc. The key thing is again in assymetry, raw thaums matters less than ability to predict and affect what she does as a opponent. Its a edge, not a unilateral one but a distinct one due to her own state.
I got the impression that some of that might have due with the nature of divination as well, where pushing an object with two branches that just so happen to be working in different directions might work differently.
Anyway, we’re also all forgetting one path she has available to incredible combat power:
The agent laughed. “Oh, you’re quicker on the uptake than I expected. You noticed our little trick, huh? But too bad, avoiding any high-powered spells and resorting to mundane weapons won’t save you, either.”
‘Little trick?’ Siobhan wondered.
They flipped around, shoving Siobhan to the ground with her arm twisted painfully and their knee to her chest as they wrested her spell rod from her other hand. Their flesh-glove had advanced all the way to their shoulder now, and would soon reach the bare skin of their neck. “I guess you won’t freeze to death, but that really wasn’t much of a danger in three minutes, anyway, no matter how much power you tossed around. We wanted to be gentle,” they said, panting much less hard than Siobhan. “The human body isn’t that durable. The other option was physical pressure. I’ve seen a man crush his own body like a grape with the backlash from a single battle spell.”
‘The cold,’ Siobhan realized. ‘It’s the middle of summer.’ She’d been too distracted by the nightmarish phenomena, and then the running and the fighting, to notice, but such a sharp drop in temperature wasn’t normal. ‘It’s some sort of backlash from my magic. If I had been a more powerful thaumaturge, would I have frozen the both of us in here thaumaturge, would I have frozen the both of us in here like some sort of giant, space-magic snow globe? Well, the Red Guard agent likely has some kind of temperature-controlling enchantment embroidered into their gear.
If she could replicate some version of Agent Holland’s board game challenge ritual she could effectively have ridiculous power. She is used to working on a hard thaumic limit and doing incredibly clever and efficient things with it, but other people aren’t. If she could figure out some version of the pressure variant that constrained everyone present, then she could probably win most fights.
This also has the added narrative bonus that it positions Hite and other artificers who pre-charged a variety of effects as the largest threats to her.
Well she did lean that her shadow could take more energy than light…and has a souce patten from a Titan on energy draw with Legion. Good for her familiar but also for a possible black shield set up. Though her version might be the same thing. There is potential for a lot of things there
Thanks! Added it to the list.
I think with how it was described I always imagined it to be just lines, like the sort you’d make with a calligraphy pen, thick at the base and then tapering off to a point. They could look either like blades or wings in flight so in my head it was symmetrical like a V with six lines, three either side. I’ll have to go back and reread the description again.
Sebastien designed a personalized symbol easily enough—a few angled lines that evoked both wings in flight and blades. It reminded her of the Raven Queen persona, all freedom and a hint of violence, and was also a reference to the blade of enlightenment, forever cutting through reality to the truth.
I could maybe draw out what this could look like, my brain has a few ideas. But yes, ultimately it’s just lines.
Sounds risky. The raven queen would know where you are. ![]()
That said I think it is not described at all. First I thought it was including a heptagram but I think this is just part of the spell circle.
If she knows where I am it would help her respond to my prayers.
It would be interesting if she managed to find someway to replicate this but I do think that by the time she is able replicate an aberrant effect with her magic she’d be able to stand against most threats on her own.
Wow! That’s really cool! Not as simple as I thought it was from the description but definitely reminiscent of both wings and bristling blades.
it’s not clear that that one was an aberrant effect though. The rain and the glove were aberrant effects, but the ritual seems be something that Holland was actively casting (we don’t see them cast anything else in that encounter), and it seems like it involves too much formalized ritual and too much flexibility to be an aberrant effect itself.
They explicitly say that they could choose between several different backlash effects
We see elsewhere that binding rituals can be ridiculously powerful if someone accidentally plays into them without any aberrants needing to be involved, like Winona Kimble who was trapped in her own mind and eventually killed due to such an agreement.
If it is a spell with aberrant components though, there is also nothing to say that Siobhan couldn’t steal those components while all the combat-focused Red Guard agents are distracted by the Sage.
This made me think of a helmet or diadem. One that would compliment her feather artifact quite nicely while being befitting of the Raven Queen.
