So what magic is it really? [Chapter 218]

The floor on this level was polished marble instead of wood, and held a huge Circle with the symbol of a ten-pointed star within.

“The building was originally built by a group of wealthy time-travel enthusiasts,” Deidre said with a wry twist of her lips. “They ended up massacring themselves in a magical accident about eight years ago. It was extremely gruesome, apparently, and word of the details spread quickly along with some rumors that the place retained traces of their magic, leaving people reluctant to buy it. Which is why the Undreaming Order was able to rent it for so cheap.”

So. This explanation is maybe wrong. The place has a 10 pointed star one the second floor. Azalea has give us a list, in the post “group project” of which shapes do which magic. In her list, 11 pointed stars are Time. Ten pointed stars … she doesn’t say.

What were they really?

I mean, if 9 is space, and 11 is time, then it seems plausible that 10 is something between and related to the two. My guess is planar barriers, attraction/gravitation, and/or continuity.

It honestly doesn’t seem out of the question that such a circle would also be of use to one attempting time magic

My Theory is Fate; but then, I’m obsessed with the idea that Fate magic is messing with Percy. The barriers between seems good. Were they trying to crack into the plane of “darkness”?

On the Patreon, azalea has explained it was a mistake:

“Ten-pointed” is actually just a mistake. I didn’t stop to check my notes because I thought I remembered which was which.
I’ll be updating it for the final version, but, yeah, when things went wrong, a 10-pointed star could have been really…impactful. And it would make sense that they would pretend they were a time-cult instead, because that’s something it’s at least semi-acceptable to admit out loud. But I don’t think it makes sense in the story for them to have a 10-pointed star, unfortunately. It would lead to too many implications. :frowning:
The floor is decorated with an 11-pointed star.

But now, really do want to guess what a ten-pointed star does!
