I get this is kinda pgts related, okay 90%, but it’s not the books per say
I am pretty sure I talked about it here before, but I want to have it somewhere, because I would love input and maybe tips and tricks!
At NWC in Seattle the do a Masquerade, it’s a competition where you do a skit and also can compete about craftsmanship.
And I really really wanna do a quick change of the first time S becomes a boy
So I want to run onto the stage as a girl holding a book, Blue reaches through and opening to pulls me through, (and as I cross I’m changing, parts going into the book)
This should have audio, copper in the heels of boots running running, banging [on the door of where I am] demanding to be let in
The walls fall down, Blue adjusting his clothes, implying things, and I am in the male form of the character… Angry that it’s implied that I’m an escort
Lights fade, end scene, go read the book series
Dreamily sighs
After the blanket for the injured kid I can hopefully take steps to work on the project.

That honestly sounds awesome
I keep wanting to make a mannaquin first, but life is pointing and laughing at me saying no…
however, since NWC has annoced its single pattern project, and its a hooded cloak, i’m over here looking through the patterns and have a “hear me out” kind of idea….
we all know our girl doesn’t like to wear dresses, she has said, more than one, how much she prefers wearing pants, but she will wear a dress… and since she needs to impress some pompous dude at a college, i can totally see ennis nagging her to put on something at least a little fem…. He found a dress her size, come on poppet, it wont be so bad
and you can still wear pants, infact you better wear pants…
I am pretty sure i can make the front closure be a thing with strong magnets… so it can be pulled off easy enough, and depending on teh fabric and components, shove it into a hollow book…
under
but i’m putting in pockets! wtf, back in the day there was this thing called POCKETS rawr
debating the undershirt, mainly because i hate things on my arms x.x its something I will decide as i make it i am sure.
but the single pattern contest is using
and one other similar pattern that can be found on etsy…
What do yall think?

the start of the lining for the cloak’s mock up… it is HUGE lol…
Look, I know that’s not a Xmas star, but my thread holder hasn’t came in yet and it works okay
Also, there is a practice run of a fun detail for the mock up… Closest I could get to a raven with my software >.>
I’m learning how to hand sew button holes.
Please ignore I’m using a bad string. I was practicing the knot
Also, yes, the basting stitch is really bad, I didn’t plan
I think it came out okay though
As I work on the mock up, I’m trying to plan for the future
What colors would she wear?
The dress can be anything cause I’m pretty sure ennis just found something “nice” that fit her, mostly…
But the cloak and pant suit thing I’m making is something she would wear on her own, along with the undershirt
I’m working on the dress now, all the pieces cut, two more need the stabilizer sewed on before I start putting it together.
Id share pictures, but I’m using an external camera 99% of the time. My glasses play conjuring of ravens as I work to keep the project clear as I work out all bits
This is the box that I bought to hold the mock up in
I did not pay very much attention to it, it was big and had stuff and opened easy
I am now giggling
I don’t know who is following or cares.
But I just hit a major milestone on this evil dress mockup . The sleeves are done.
Mostly, I don’t have the thing to hold the sleeve to the dress installed, prob do it on the outside… Cause I’m trying to finish the dress this weekend.
But check it out
The french seam on the armhole is pretty clean, the sleeve is a little messy. But it was my first attempt!
The sleeve that is “properly attached” according to the pattern fits weird at my elbow for some movements.
I really do need to make sure the detachable sleeve move how needed before being pulled off.
I’m off to play a video game for a bit to celebrate before moving forward

I went looking for a fabric store in Seattle proper and got lost. I asked two shops for help, you might find it amusing.
The raven store had a lot of shiny stuff, I think jewelry store.
And if that isn’t what a bookstore looks like, is it really a bookstore? Btw, walking inside, yeah, still looked like that.
I should have asked the nice lady at the fabric store if I could take her picture, I think she could have played Liza (the own who helps our girl with the raven spells, don’t feel good and suck at spelling) with little effort.
I got fabric for the dress there, she described a fabric that I think I want, kinda makes me think of a bird’s feather by discription, but we needed to go… More pictures later. Wanted to share about the shops before I passed out

The dress works, it just needs the closure things to be called done
The shirt and vest fit
But the pants, I’ve made 3 stupid attempts, none of them fit, I even added inches to the pattern and still somehow the same size wtf
Dramatically
Im just gonna cut my pirate pants up and use them for the pattern, one of the legs tore anyways
… I thought the dress was evil
At least adjusting the dress was easy

So, I cut my fav pair of pants
Traced it on purple fabric
…
Then cut it out without adding seam allowance e.e
…
So I terraced the purple bits on a bluish teal, and added seam allowance before cutting
…
I didnt grab enough of the blue for the whole waistband
Now most of the waist band is gonna be black
…
The pants are suppose to be the least complicated part!
The pants are done, close enough anyways
The part of the top I was missing has been delivered and is about 75% done being installed… But I need a break.
The thing I’m installing makes me realize that I can embroidery something like a book spine to be front and center.
But kinda simple, and possibly matching the color of the dress. Or maybe stand out…
And I might get a bigger piece for the actual thing.
~~stuff to think about
…
But now, now I’m thinking about accessories. I have an idea of how I want to do the amulets…
But the book…
Pgts, conjuring of ravens prob doesn’t have a leather version, but does it have a hardback version I can add leather to?
And I need to learn leather stamping
Well … I’ve made a few blank paper journals, and I’m interested in bookbinding. It turns out that most people who are binding a book “in leather” remove the original cover and basically create a new hardcover that they attach to the book.
In other words, they bind a “paperback” book even when they start with a hardcover.
My work used to bind paperback books into hardcovers, so I happen to know this is a completely ordinary practice going back over a century.
So, take a look at NerdForge on Youtube to get a feel for her process of binding Harry Potter and Sanderson’s books in leather. They also collaborated with Adam Savage on an oversized book that could be instructional. There’s forums on this sort of hobby, so I bet you can find some good resources for making a paperback into a hardcover.

But if there is already a hardback, I can just cut that and wrap around it.
I have an understanding of how hard it is to properly bind books… Nerdforge comes up on my list a lot. A few others I follow have done it a few times.
But
Please note, I’m hand sewing a 2(kinda 3) set quick change outfit, cutting and mostly sewing machine done, but some of it has to be done by hand.
And the contest is the sat of Easter weekend, I miss that, I have to wait a year and prob make adjustments for my body changing.
Due to my illness, I’m not as quick as I use to be and need a lot of breaks.
So, I wanted a cheat of “hard back book” to modify instead of making a paperback book into a hardback, which I will do, if there is time.
12 or so hours I go to pick out more fabric
