Tarquin vs Myrddin and The Work theories [chapter 197 spoilers]

As far as I know, we got only one mention of this mysterious and at-least-Myrddin-level sorcerer:

That jackass Tarquin has come up with a viable method for self-charging artifacts.

How did the world forget about him? Even if he was a jackass and disliked, someone would surely write about him even if only in books about Myrddin. Did you guys notice a reference that I missed?

Anyway, new theories:

  1. I think Myrddin might have stolen more than just a discovery from Tarquin and might have caused him to be omitted from history. They were collaborating on “The Work” though so the secrecy might have been Tarquin’s choice?

  2. Could it be that the group Myrddin joined/co-founded/collaborated with for “The Work” is the Architects of Khronos? We only saw rather weak and academically focused members of the group, but the name combined with Myrddin’s time travel and the choice of name for “The Work” hints at a link. It is interesting that Myrddin seems to have not been the leader and also had goals not quite aligned with this Tarquin.

  3. The Work is a project to seal away the part of the Magic Entity that causes the dramatic changes in abherrants. Perhaps magic was much more flexible and less defined and something from other times/planes got access to it and so The Work involved making magic into a Magic Entity so it could resist. Or perhaps there always was a Magic Entity but it simply did not include a memetic idea that had become a threat. In either case, the nature of magic changed and tools such as self-recharging artifacts and new types of conduits had to be developed to allow for using magic in a safer way and/or to define and constrain the Magic Entity.

  4. Not on topic but I don’t want to start another thread for a tiny thing: The Architects are kidnapping people from Osham in an attempt to find the thief who stole one of the books.

Theories and opinions are very welcome!

Do we actually know he is forgotten as a person. Perhaps he just wasn’t credited properly by society for his work because Myrddin was louder, grander and more memorable.

He might just be remembered in society nowadays as some obscure contemporary of Myrddin

People barely know anything about Myrddin’s life already so it’s not too surprising less known sorcerer got forgotten, especially if he wasn’t seeking fame.
And we don’t know how much Myrddin contributed.

Around the time when Myrddin was rising to prominence, he and a few of his contemporaries demonstrated the first known self-charging complex artifacts. Some of these were operated to great effect and some to great disaster when things went wrong. There was contention even at the time about who was the first to achieve such a landmark advancement in the craft of artificery, but the back-and-forth struggle for supremacy certainly sped up growth in the field.

And just because we never heard of the guy doesn’t me he’s been forgotten completely, he might still be referenced in some books.
